How to prepare
for the Mauritius freediving trip

This section contains all the up-to-date information you need to prepare for the journey.
Mauritius is an island in the Indian Ocean, located east of Madagascar.
Citizens of Russia and Kazakhstan do not need a visa for stays of up to 60 days. Citizens of Ukraine and Belarus may stay on the island visa-free for up to 30 days. If you are from another country, please check the visa requirements for your nationality or feel free to ask us.

This trip is designed for freedivers with open-water experience or participants with a strong swimming level. To ensure the best possible experience in the water, every participant should be able to swim with fins smoothly, with good technique.

We will spend several hours at a time in the ocean. Weather conditions may vary — the ocean can be calm or have large waves depending on the season, so please bring motion sickness medicine if you are sensitive to waves.

Water temperature
February–March: 28–29°C, waves and rain are possible
July–August: 24–25°C, waves are possible, rain is rare

• Hats, caps, sunglasses, and swimwear
• Comfortable shoes or sneakers for hiking
• Action cameras with underwater housing
• Motion sickness pills (can also be purchased locally)

The hotel has reliable WiFi.

You can also buy a SIM card at the airport. It will be especially useful if you rent your own vehicle and would like to explore the island independently.

Group transfer

We organize group transfers for tour participants from the airport to the hotel. Please make sure to send your flight details to our manager.
The transfer cost is included in the tour price. All transfers around the island for the planned excursions are also included.

Freediving equipment

If you don't have your own freediving equipment, everything you need can be rented on-site.
The mask should have a low internal volume and a soft silicone skirt.
Scuba diving and snorkeling masks differ from freediving masks, so please make sure to specify in the shop that you need a freediving model.
The snorkel should be simple, without valves. It may either attach to the mask or be sold separately — both options are suitable.
Mask and snorkel
Fins should have a closed heel foot pocket (except for certain freediving models, such as Molchanovs).
Short training fins are also an option.
Keep in mind that with proper kicking technique, long fins will provide greater speed and efficiency in the water.
Fins
Freediving belt is made of rubber or silicone and is very elastic.

You don't need to bring weights, we will provide them for you.

Weight belt and weights
In February, the water is very warm, so you will need either a thin wetsuit (1–2 mm) or simply a long-sleeve lycra for sun protection.
In July and August, a 3 mm wetsuit is recommended.
